About the blog
I created this blog more for personal use than for serious discussions. They do have a place here, but it’s more about cataloguing my thoughts and opinions. I use the blog to keep track of all the important things that I come across on the Internet. I keep bookmarks for this purpose, but I have over a thousand (1000). It’s easier to put them in a blog where one can also write a short annotation about the link too, which equates to easier searching and finding in the future. It’s also easier to share the entries.
Why use blog software?
I was considering using the traditional XHTML website, using a template from OSWD. But the drawback from this technique is every page has to be maintained. I then considered Content Management Systems. The one I was interested in was Joomla!. I probably would have used this software, but I didn’t have a server to host it on. I thought maybe blog software would be what I needed. WordPress is the one I chose, because it seemed to be one of the better ones available, and it isn’t proprietary like LiveJournal or Blogger. I found out that WordPress actually had its own hosting servers, and I thought it would be good because it has an export/import system so my blog wouldn’t be trapped on their servers; meaning I could export it and host it myself at anytime. I also love the tag/category system, which means I can file articles under more than one category. Not being able to file articles under more than one category is problematic and has left me searching for a long time in the past, such as in the bookmarks system.
How do I navigate the blog?
Use the navigation column on the right. The links at the top only link to the main pages.
All of the most important things will be on pages, while normal entries will be in the blog itself. Some pages are continually updated, while blog entries usually not. Blog entries are sorted into the various categories and tags.
Comments
Spam comments will be deleted. Comments that link to products that require a purchase will be deleted (if the comment is helpful only the link will be deleted). Flame comments will not necessarily be deleted, I realize that people do have strong opinions. Racist and derogatory comments are deleted. Please note that your everyday swear words are allowed if they are not excessive…who doesn’t swear nowadays?
